We are using MS Publisher 2007 and are attempting to create EPS format files from within this application. MS suggest that you do this by printing to file using the "Generic Color PS for Commercial Printing" driver. Before printing it is possible change the printers advanced settings in "Postscript Options" -> "Postcript Output Option" to "Encapsuled Postscript". Once this is done the output file just needs to be given an "EPS" extention.

On the face of it this appears to work. However in a simple test file created in Publisher converted to EPS as specified above and then opened in Adobe Illustrator on the same PC results in Illustrator complaining about availble fonts. The exact message on attemting to open the EPS file is "The document "XXX" uses fonts or characters which are not available or are in a differnet from than originally specified"

Does anyone have any idea what this might by. It does not make any sense to me given that all this is taking place on the same PC?

I found the following thread on a MS community site:

Nonetheless, this will NOT help if he's using TrueType fonts that are
restricted by the font owner for embedding.

No mechanism will make those fonts go into the PDF.

The only thing he can do is to print to a Postscript file, and make sure
his printer driver is set up to download all fonts as soft fonts. At
least then it can be printed at the other end.

Or, he should buy and use strictly Postscript fonts. PS fonts don't
have embedding restrictions."

I have tried this out and have managed to convert a document successfully.
