My First post, though I have used information posted here in past and have found you all to be very helpful, polite and informative so before anything else thank you for that!!!

I am a new Telecom guy and have come pretty far but have gaps still.

My receptionist often has people that frequent that area that may have restrainig orders or are a security threat in general. Becauase she is the front line she is left alone there. I need to implement a method of her alerting a group of people that there is trouble at the front desk, without actually speaking.

system is Meridian Option 11C
Call pilot 4.0
Contact Center 6.0

So I tried to configure an MCR key on a few 3904 nortel sets and though I can make them all ring simultaneously, I can not get the name "emergency at front desk" to display when the number is dialed.

I dont know if this presents the best solution, I considered intercom groups but again she would need to be able to speak. Can anyone help with this or suggest a better solution, eternally grateful just to be able to post a question here.

Thank you all

You'll have trouble defining a name for just Group Call...you won't get it to say "Emergency at Reception". She will also be on-handset or on-speaker, neither of which she will have time to decide, and both of which will pose a threat to the intruder. If you go with the "3-key with announcements method" john poole mentioned, she'll need a college degree to figure out how to do it all in the right order - and that's only if she not scared to death by the intruder.

So, it's your call on her life. You are looking for the most absolute certain, simple, and low-tech solution. One that will never fail and can't be done wrong.

Read as "a switch"

You know where hold-up alarms are in many retail stores? You pull the last $20 bill out of the drawer and that closes a set of silent alarm contacts. So simple even a caveman can do it.

I have been thinking about this, and Gene's requirement for a switch to close (and stay closed) and have a twist on the solution that would be able to use a 'momentary switch' allowing you more choice in activation devices.

In 5.00 you can defined multiple Emergency Service DNs in the system. So you build the analog hotline TN as discussed, but you HOT D it to a secondary ESDN (say 8888 in this example). You set the actual HOT D to 88880 and turn on misdial prevention. The call goes no place, but generates an OSN alert in the system. You use the new free OSN screen pop client from eTelemetry to pop an alert on any PC you want.

Now you can have any type of momentary switch you want, you aren't creating a real call, and you can alert a PC via screen pop.

All this costs you is a few dollars for the activation switch.

GHTROUT-Unfortunatly these are the imposed constraints of this organization and they serve as an immovable object, the young lady at the front desk is a personal friend which Is why I am working to try to insert a comprehensive solution in spite of the constraints.

Question: The screen Pops assume a Sig server is in the switch and we have IP capabilities, correct?

We are currently 100% TDM-Oy I am so confused.

no it does not assume a sig server or IP.

There are many network popup programs out there, but those usually require her to type something to send.

With 20.00 at radio shack you can get everything you need to make this work the best way for her. I work at a bank, and think of it like we have here, the tellers have buttons that they can easily hit without anyone knowing they have done so. Our buttons are actually finger holes so they do not hit them accidentally. You want something stealth so that if someone does come in and has bad intentions, you dont want them to know she has called for help, that alone could put her in danger. if she is seen calling someone or dialing, that could put her at risk.

An unseen button under her desk drawer would be ideal.

Absolutely NOT!

Screen pops are generated via SNMP traps from the ELAN of the call server, and are applicable to TDM, VoIP and Hybrid solutions. No sig Server is required, nor is IP telephony. You just need to have the ELAN of the Call Server connected to the network.

LENS is free from (for a single workstation deployment) the paid version offers multiple alert agents as well as email and SMS alerts. It runs on any Windows server in your network, or the paid version is offered as an appliance (1U server in a rack) that can be upgraded to do IP set location discovery later if you need that functionality.

I would NOT depend upon my phone system for something lik ethis, call a security company! If your company is to darn cheap for emplyee safety, the simple solution is to look for a job elsewhere!

Phonz-truth be told I am looking as we speak my friend, I have 12 years in Networking and took telecom because I relocated the hospital and they gave it to me and then took away all training options.

Hence my only recourse is Forums to get things done.
