Hello all,

I have not used hyperlinks in the past and can't find the exact syntax I need to create a link to a separate report.

My main report is oriented portrait but I have two subreports, one portrait and one landscape. If the number of fields in the subreport exceeds a certain threshold, I want the landscape oriented subreport do display, otherwise I want the portrait oriented subreport to display. I realize I can't orient my subreports differently from the main report in CR XI and am hoping the hyperlink option is the way to go.

Basically, I want to display the portrait subreport if it fits, otherwise present the user with a link that is captioned along the lines of 'This report is too wide to display on this page. Click this link to open in in a separate window'. This would then load the landscape oriented subreport.

Is this possible?

Thank you.

Using CR XI with an Oracle 9i backed on a Windows XP client.

Hi Ido,

Thanks for the reply. I realize that I don't need a subreport, I just need a way of linking to another report from my main report. It can be any standalone Crystal Report. Is there a way to do that?

You can't use the hyperlink function in CR to open another report? Well, that kinda stinks.

Thanks Ido. I can't use third party tools so I'll need to figure something else out.

CR2008 has what you are looking for.....
Flexible Pagination
Facilitate better online report viewing to your end users. Report designers can customize page size and easily control page breaking after N records/groups. A single report can combine portrait and landscape oriented pages and the white space at the end of groups can be removed by compressing the page footers. Online report consumption is improved because reports are easier to read.

Hi,
If you could publish the other report ( using Crystal Server or ( if enough money) Business Objects) , then a URL can be included in your original report that would run the published one( and even pass a value or values from the original to it)

Thanks Data and Turk,

I know 2008 has it but I'm stuck right now on XI. The application that calls the reports is certified on XI meaning a change to 2008 would call for every existing report to be migrated, tested, etc. Too much hassle for the department. With that said, I also don't have Enterprise. There is an application called Labware LIMS which calls the reports, I believe, via an asp page. Meeting with the developers today to find out more. If it IS via asp or .net or something, maybe they know how to do this.
