Ok - I had this book project dumped in my lap - not happy about it (or the 7 times these people have changed their minds about the format - waiting until I am on Chapter 7 each time)

Is there any easy way to change attributes in the book without having to go chapter to chapter?

The page numbers are also off - how do I fix those? Numbers are being skipped... ex. Chapter 1 pages 11-17, Chapter 2 pages 13-28... then it goes normal again.

I also want the dedication pages to not be numbered and the introduction to be in roman numerals. My Quark book is not helping.

Can anyone help me out? I have chaper 1 set as my master chapter, but that is the limit of my knowledge on that. My brain is fried and I am pregnant and hormonal. I need step-by-step idiot proof instructions.

Thank you!

Hi cuteadchick,

I also am no expert in this field either but there is an option to name the front pages with Roman Numerals. Here is an extract from a quark book I borowed from the library as I am in the process of editing a book for a friend. They have named those extra pages at the front of the book "Frntmat.qxd"

7. Double click Frntmat.qxd in the Book palette to open it.

8. Click the icon for the first page of the file, then click the page number field in the lower left-hand corner of the Document Layout palette to bring up the Section dialog. Click the Section Start box and enter 1 in the Number field, then choose lower-case Roman numberals from the Format pop-up menu and click OK to apply the change. Now this file starts with page i and ends with page ii, which is the customary way to number front matter pages in books.

I hope this helps.

Besides settting the preface material to Roman numerals, as mentioned earlier, you may also need to set chapter 1 back to Arabic numerals.

If you have the chapters already on the book palette and the numbers aren't following in sequence, then I suspect either you have facing pages made up and some chapters don't have a last left hand page or else you have clicked the Section Start option for each chapter, which overrides the Chapter Start numbering. Go through and make sure the Section Start boxes are UNclicked.

Hope this helps.
