I'm not sure if this is the right forum, or if I should post in a windows forum...

In Programs-MS Office-Templates...there are a number of folders that the office programs templates are stored in. How would I add a folder that Word, for example, would add to it's collection of template folders. ie, in Word, I would like to go File-New-and see a folder called "My Templates" along with the others (Letters, Memos, Legal Pleadings etc).

Any ideas anyone?

Choose [Options] under [Tools] and check file locations. That should show you where your templates are held.

Theoretically you could add an extra folder there. Whether this is a good idea is more moot: maybe someone with more system knowledge can say. It does not seem to be an option that Word 2002 is set up to offer. I'd advise caution, especially if you are sharing the templates with other people.

What I always do is add my templates to the folder of general templates, using a distinctive name.

Hmmm Maybe it's a network thing. At one of my workplaces, someone has done some customising and there are folders with departmental folders of templates, accessible via File New & similar methods.

There's no problem with creating a folder in the Templates folder, it's just adding it to the Word "template gallery" that I can't work out.

Hi Stropy,

If you add a folder inside the Templates Folder and put all your templates in there, then when you enter File > New, you should get an extra tab for your folder with your templates showing there.

Enjoy,
Tony

Dear All,

As it turns out, what I've found so far is this: Using Word 97, Win 2K...doesn't work. Using Word 2003, Win 2k, it works! Using Word 2000, Win XP it doesn't work.

Thanks for the assistance

M

It works for me - Word 2000, Win XP Pro

Enjoy,
Tony

All sorted. I accidentally changed the Template file location in Tools - Options during the process. I had word pointing to the sub-folder (M's Templates) rather than Templates. Funnily enough though, it was showing all the other templates in the main template folder as well even though I had changed the path ...

Now to add template folders to my other Office Programs....
