Create MDE: ACCESS2002 stops responding 2

When I create a MDE file ACCESS2002 stops and gives a message "ACCESS2002 is not responding".
I created the MDE file already several times.

Also "Compacting and repair" works fine.
Tha latest change to my MDB was adding a form.
The version before is still working fine and can be still converted into a MDE.

What happened and what to do to prevent?

You most likely just need to Decompile your database to clean up leftover pieces of code. Then to recompile it. Doing this will also result in a smaller database size. Here's a site that has detailed instructions on how to do this.

I'm running Access 2002 and this includes the compres and repair utility; I think this does the same as you describe as "decompile and recompile". Am I correct???

The /decompile options does a bit more.

While comapact and repair does a lot of houskleening, emptying the database from deleted objects, reindexes etc, it's not known to deal with corruptions issues (corruption of the code). The /decompile also decompiles any pieces of code.

Following the descriptions of the faq will in some cases repair corruption in code/code behind forms/reports. And you'll often see that a decompile shrink the size of a database even more than compact & repair.

Haven't done much mde myself, but if there are corruption issues, or other things related to code (compile error...) I believe the result you're experiencing can be one of the symptoms.

I should have been more specific. RoyVidar is correct, /decompile does a few extra things that the standard comact and repair does not. As a general rule if you can not create a MDE or ADE after running Compact and Repair then you should decompile and then Compact and Repair. I've actually started the practice of doing a /decompile every time I release a new version of my ADE on to my network.
