Create Administrative Account in Novell 6. 1

Could someone explain to me the steps to create an Admin Account equal to the Admin Account created during a new install of Novell 6? We just set up a Novell 6 server and created a Admin Role. Then we added the accounts that we want to have full administrative rights to the server. We made in security eqivalent to the Admin Account the was created during the install. When we logged into the server with the account created to be admin and went into Consoleone, we could not make any changes to any of the accounts. Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Easy to do, harder to explain.

Using security equivalents for admin accounts is a bad way to do things. I don't recommend it.

Instead, assign the user as a trustee of the [root] object in your tree. Grant them Supervisor permissions. This will give them full admin access to the tree (and all servers in the tree).

You can do this in NWADMN32 or CONSOLEONE

I would recommend staying away from Roles unless you get some specific training on how they work and what they do. They aren't required to manage a server, but do have their place.

I use an Admin Group but not roles. The group is a trustee of [root] with supervisor permissions as Marvin suggests. When I need to make someone an Admin, I just add them to the group.

Marv has hit the nail on the head (as usual). If you make a User account Security Equivalent to ADMIN (for example), this leaves you in a vunerable position because should anything happen with the ADMIN account, then your Security Equal user is also affected. This could leave you with no Admin user at all!

LawnBoy's Admin Group is also a good idea as it is easier to grant Admin access and to monitor who you have given Admin rights to (although users can still be added the other ways too)
