create a new project in visualindev using iis, having problems 3

i was able to test my asp page against IIS but when i tried to create a project in visualinterdev, it prompted for what server i wanted to use(localhost and tuan), it was unable to find it.

when i tried to open the the personal web manager and i would see the following:

web publishing is on:

http://tuan

and home directory is at:
c:\inetpub\websites\project1

the test.asp page that is in the project1 directory. when i open the internet explorer browser with url of
http:\\localhost\test.asp, it displayed the result.

so what is my server name then?


please help!!!!!

It sounds like your iis has named c:\inetpub\websites\project1
as the default website for that server.

http://tuan

and

http://localhost

are the same thing, if your servers name is tuan. localhost just refers to the machine you are currently on or browsing from.

flashnerd, i have the same problem as yours. when you type in a server name, in your case "tuan", it returns an error saying, "Method not allowed.(Error code = 80070005)". this error didn't come up when i was using PWS(personal web server) but occurred when i used IIS. i think its something to do with one of the IIS settings, but i don't know what. i really hope someone here can help us. please...

i went to Mircosoft's web site to look for the solution. and luckily i found the answer. i copied and pasted what was in the microsoft site. it worked for my problem, hope it will help you too. goodluck

Verify the version of the FrontPage Server Extensions.

Browse to

http://servername/_vti_inf.html.

You should see a page with the heading "FrontPage Configuration Information." View the source code of this page. The version of the FrontPage Server Extensions appears after FPVersion=.

It is recommended that you use the FrontPage Server Extensions version 4.0.2.2717 or later.

You can download the latest version of the FrontPage Server Extensions from the following Microsoft Web site:

Check that FrontPage Server Extensions are installed properly:
FrontPage 2000 Server Extensions
Open Internet Service Manager, right-click Default Web Site (or the appropriate Web site), and then select All Tasks.

If you see the option Configure Server Extensions, the Web site does not have the server extensions enabled. Choose this option to start a wizard that will help you to enable the server extensions.

If you see the option Check Server Extensions, the Web site has the server extensions installed. Choose this option to start a diagnostic program that analyzes the Web site and fixes common issues.

If you do not see an All Tasks item when you right-click the Web site, the FrontPage 2000 server extensions either have not been installed on the computer, or the server extensions' snap-in to the Microsoft Management Console (MMC) was not enabled during setup.

To enable the server extensions' snap-in, go to the Microsoft Internet Information Services (IIS) Manager, and then click Console.

NOTE: If your computer is running Microsoft Windows 2000, close the IIS Manager, right-click the Internet Services Manager icon in the Administrators group, and then select Author to enable the Console menu. Click Add/Remove Snap-In menu item. On the Extensions tab, make sure that FrontPage Server Extensions box is checked. You should now be able to both configure and check the FrontPage Server Extensions.


FrontPage 98 Extensions
To check the FrontPage 98 Server Extensions:


Click Start, point to Programs, point to Windows NT 4.0 Option Pack, point to Microsoft Internet Information Server, and then click FrontPage Server Administrator.


Click Check and Fix.
