Hi,

I am trying to setup a connection via a serial port to a customer. The customer is getting lost packets and heaps of CRC errors. The Telco we are using has tested the line with a BERT tester error free. We have change cards, cables and tried many different configs but cannot seem to get it to work. Has anyone come across a problem like this before??

We are running HDLC on a point to point connection. And we are running IP over that connection. The telco is using Nortel TN-1C ADM equipment. The funny thing is that we where using a T3 card in a 7500, with heaps of dropped packets (400/1000 got through) but we changed to a 7200 and only lost two packets!! Is there some compatiblity problem between the Nortel and Cisco gear??

I would get a sniffer and see just what is happening on the link. You can rent Wanbooks from NAI or rent the engineer with the sniffer. There is not any reason that you can not run cisco with Nortel unless someone is doing something slightly out of spec. Or you have a card that is flaky.

We got it going now. The telco is using a Nortel TN1-C ADM/SDH. It has two DS3 ports and we where trying to commission on port two as port one was in use. We changed cards, cables etc to no avail. Then we changed ports and it worked fine on port one. Then we changed subracks thinking port two was faulty on the origional subrack. The new subrack also had errors on port two but ran fine on port one. Very strange!!! We have refered this to Nortel to look at. The only thing we though of later was that the other end of the link was on Port one and we were trying to get it going on port two at our end, but that's a big stretch.
