could somebody pls tell me how to check my cpu temp, my system locks up a lot, blue screens, gpfs, invalid page faults etc and i think maybe it is overheating, is there a utility to check fan operation ? win 98, cyrixII 6x86. thanks [sig][/sig]

Depends on your motherboard, some motherboard comes with onboard temperature sensors, also any Mobo with 3pin fan connectors onthe board can monitor how many RPM(rotations per minute) the fan is moving. but it depends on your motherboard. ( I haven't seen any temperature sensor you could buy seperatly ) [sig]<p>Karl<br><a href=mailto:kb244@kb244.com>kb244@kb244.com</a><br><a href= </a><br>Experienced in : C++(both VC++ and Borland),VB1(dos) thru VB6, Delphi 3 pro, HTML, Visual InterDev 6(ASP(WebProgramming/Vbscript)<br>

Talking about CPU temperature, if you think it is overheating make sure it is properly cooled. Make sure that you have a heatsink and fan directly on the CPU, some thermal gel wouldn't hurt it either. You might also check into making sure there is a proper flow of outward air. If the heat is building in your system, it may just be that it needs to be moved elsewhere, away from the motherboard and the chip. There are cards /w fans you can buy that will do just that. You might also thin about a chassis fan. I like to do this test. Take your finger and place it on your CPU, if you get burned or cannot hold it there too long, your chip needs cooling! I had a problem once w/ my Cyrix 200MHz. The plastic tab on the motherboard had broken off. This caused the heatsink/fan to look like it was still on the processor but it was just a little off... unfortunatly this caused many problems as you described. Best bet would be to check that heatsink/fan and make sure it's secure. For a processor like that, as long as it's secure and the fan is spinning your good to go. If the fan seems a bit sluggish it may need to be replaced.
As far as I'm aware there is no program out there that will check the speed/operation of the fan or CPU temperature. Hope this information helps in some way.
