Hi everyone,

I just upgraded my computer yesterday. I installed a AMD 3000+ cpu on a Asus A7N8X Deluxe motherboard. My problem is that the bios detects the CPU at 1.3 GHZ. I downloaded AMDcpuid and CPUinfo. They both report the same thing. Once yesterday the bios correctly said it was 3000+.

I'm unsure what to do at this point. Should I update the bios? Change the Bios settings? I'm a little leary of updating the bios since I've never done it before and I'm a little afraid of doing something stupid.

Thanks

It could just be that your front side bus is set to default 100? now you have a 333front side bus CPU so you need to up the setting to 166 (double data rate pumps this up to 333)
There may either be dip switch on the motherboard or the adjustment may be in the bios.
Memory may also need adjusting (depends on if you have PC2100 or ideally for the XP3.0+ PC2700) if the later set both FSB and memory to 166 or 133/166 if you only have 2100DDR memory.

Replying helps further our knowledge, without comment leaves us wondering.

The XP 3000+ was made as both 333fsb & 400fsb variants. Depending on which model you got, the cpu will run at either 333fsb & 2.17GHz, or 400fsb & 2.1GHz. Try out the 333fsb first, then if it's still to low of a clock speed, then you have the chip designed to run at 400fsb.

Hi guys,

I'll try to change the FSB speed. I think I got the 333fbs model. I did manage to change the multiplier(to highest setting) in the bios but it only got up the 1.7 GHZ. The memory I got is PC3200, so i shouldn't have to change anything.

I'll try it and see what happens and get back to you.

Thanks again

If you got PC3200 memory you can try running that CPU at 400mhz. I just got a Athlon 2600 and when trying to get the settings correct had it running at 400, your 3000 should. I went back to 166\333 just because I'm chicken, and my board will run the ram at 400 at the same time. I am not sure how but it says it is.

your memory is fine - go into your bios and set the front side bus to 333 (it might say 166? - its the same) - set and save and you should have 2.17 ghz.

the XP3000 does not run at 3000mhz.
