Hi

I need to know how I can check the cpu fsb speed of my 1Ghz t/bird processor.
At the moment it is only running @ 750mhz. I don't think my ECS K7sem mobo supports 266Mhz fsb pcu speeds.
I'm new to this game and not quite sure if what I have just written is a load of garbish! I might be getting my speeds mixed up, (Irony not intended).
Would my computer still work if my processor was 266 and my mobo 200?
If not whats wrong with my cpu speed only running @ 750Mhz?
Its not likely to be a blag CPU is it? It has 1000 written on the processor.

Any enlightenment is much appreciated

Thanks in advance.

Lee.

Coombs-

Yes, your CPU will run at 750Mhz on your board if it can only run 200Mhz FSB and the chip is 266Mhz FSB because the multiplier is locked. It's not a big deal, you just take a performance hit (and your processor probably runs extra cool). That is (most likely - 99.9%) your problem, although I don't know how AMD denotes FSB by codes (Intel used 800E and 800EB to differentiate between 100Mhz FSB and 133Mhz FSB) to let you know for certain. Maybe check their website to find out how to differentiate the two types; let me know what you find out - I need it to increase my font of useless info...;)

Not sure if I can remember exactly, built the same or similar a couple of weeks ago and had the same as you, 1 gig DDR (266fsb) processor posting as a 750.
Press delete on boot, get into bios.
Set CPU speed and FSB settings to 133 and all will be OK in the world. I presume you were sold a 1 gig 266fsb.

That mobo will support the chip flash the bios

K7SEM
SiS® 730S Chipset
Socket A for AMD® Athlon/Duron (K7) processors
Max memory: 1.0GB
Support External (4X) & Internal AGP (4X)
RealTek 8139C LAN Chip on board
AC97 Audio Codec on board

K7SEM a Micro ATX mainboard that uses a 4-layer printed circuit board and 244 mm x 220 mm. The mainboard has a Socket 462 to accommodate AMD® Athlon/Duron (K7) processors that support frontside bus (FSB) speeds up to 200MHz*. The K7SEM is installed with the economical high-performance SiS®730S chipset and built-in 3D sound that features the AC 97 Audio Codec. The SiS®730S incorporates a 128-bit 2D/3D graphics accelerator that provides 1920x1200 16-bit color. The mainboard delivers high-level performance with support for the onboard AGP function and a 4xAGP (Accelerated Graphics Port) slot, and two PCI Bus Master Ultra DMA (UDMA) ports that support up to four ATAPI (AT Attachment Packet Interface) devices. The PCI IDE also supports PIO Mode 3 and 4, UDMA33/66/100 IDE, and an ATAPI CD-ROM.The mainboard accommodates PC 100/133 SDRAM (Synchronous DRAM) up to 1 GB using two 3.3V unbuffered DIMM modules. Other features include the embedded Realtek 8139C LAN chip for fast 10/100 Mbps Ethernet connections using a LAN bracket (with transformer), and a PCI 3D sound system that supports the AC 97 audio codec.

* We had verified and confirmed that K7SEM can be guaranteed to support 100MHz AMD CPU and the MAJORITY OF THE 133MHz CPUs.
