I have a fairly new workstation here that seems to have a CPU fan that is running very very fast. Now the CPU itself doesnt seem to have any issues, but the fan just seems to be moving at hype-speed. Any suggestions as to whats causing the fan to run so fast? Could it just be faulty? Any suggestions?

You will be able to check "just how fast" that fan is spinning by going into the bios and reading the hardware monitor status.
There has been a general trent towards larger heatsinks with bigger/slower fans (normally 80mm fans that spin under 3,000rpm) yours on the other hand might just be one of the faster/smaller 60mm units that were common only a year/18months ago, they spin well over 5,000rpm default.

Ok this is what I have.
Dell GX280
2.8ghz P4
1gig RAM
75gig HD
W2K SP4
This is a recent issue. We've had this computer for months and its never sounded like a hair dryer. I checked the BIOS and there isnt a hardware monitor. Any suggestions?

OK, a Dell! thats a whole new ball game.
Dell Optiplex? use Dells proprietory large heatsink with extractor cowling, the fan is mounted chassis side and uses the plastic assembley to direct it's airflow across the passive style heatsink.
This chassis fan connects to the motherboard and is temperature controlled so I'm asking:
Is this a normal fan noise? or exessively worn unit ie failing bearing.
Blocked airflow or excessive dust build up ie
intake vents blocked by carpet etc
Seasonal changes ie:
As this fan is thermally operated it will naturally have a tendancey to "SPIN UP" more in the summer months
Is the tower kept in a well vented area
Also it might be worth checking in the bios for fan control options ie fully auto/always on etc
Certainly I would be inclined to give this "clam Style" PC a good blow out as a matter of routine maintenance.
