Every 5 to 14 days the cpu on my windows server 2003 box hits 100%. On looking at task manager it is the system process which is the culprit. Can`t do anything but try to shut it down which takes about 40 minutes after which I have to manually power it off.

Anybody had something similar

Thanks
Mark

Are you running McAfee EPO with GroupShield protecting the Info Store?

I had similar problems a few weeks ago; I'm running Symantec and Symantec Mail Security for Exchange.

I had major problems getting this resolved, during the reboot process the server hung. When I did a cold boot the server took a good 20 minutes rebuilding the AD database and information store; but the Istore was locked and wouldnt let more then one or two people into their e-mail at once. An additional warm boot fixed the problem.

We had no errors in the event log other then my system monitoring stuff telling me that I was rebooting, and that services were offline during the reboot.

I personally think it has something to do with a 3rd Party COM object for Prolaw (a legal management package from Thomson Elite -- which caused the error but there is no way to really tell that I could see.

Best of luck fixing your problem.
