CPQ Presario password problem

i have a friend that has a compaq presario 5WV254.
when i try to enable the power on password it works once and never works agian what is wrong. HP wants $60 to answer this one question. i did every thing that the bois asked and it won't work, but the first time. does any 1 have a clue? thankyou

Id advise checking the support website for Compaq and looking for a bios update for that exact model.

However, DOING A BIOS UPDATE MAY RENDER MACHINE TOTALLY UNUSABLE!!
Be sure that this is necessary. If so be very very careful!

that is what i was afraid of. i don't like upgraging bios chips. at least when i was at work i could get a new chip and start over but with a mother board you can't do that. thankyou
