Hi, I have 2 questions
1. I was wondering if there is a compatible issue with the new CP100 ver 3.0 software, I had a customer that their CP100 crashed and I had to replace it I tried two different CP100 ver 3.0 on the CICS 6.1 s/w and took for ever to come up and each feature code you enter ie F983 it takes up to 2-4 min to work, I put in a CP100 2.1 & worked & came up great, All the doc's say the CP100 are compatible with 4.1 s/w & up.

2. I tried to put the older software (1.5) into the new CP100 cabinet it all came up with all the greetings & everything you could leave a message, But you couldn't get into the mail box it would just say EXIT, I checked to see what the system came up with and said it had 0 mail boxes installed, I thought the first 10 mail boxes were fixed. Has any one had any problems like this and if you could move the software to another cabinet or not?

You don't have your licensing setup. CP will work on the incoming caller's side, but when you go to do anything mailbox related, the system will say nope. Check to make sure you have your licenses activated on the CP.

For problem 1) I have the same problem on a MICS. Some times the unit works for 2 months and then it just stops. Plug in a DB9 cable and watch the system boot up with hyperterminal. That will give you a indication the system is booting or not. When it says "VOICE MAIL CORE READY!" your CP is now working (it takes another 30 seconds for the web GUI to come up).

Problem 1: CP ver 3.0 needs MICS/CICS 7.0

Problem 2: By putting in ver 1.5 you have erased the 10 mailbox licences. As far as I know there is no way to recover them you will have to buy licences for the mail box side of this CP to work.

As a side note if you back up a ver 1.5 and restore to another CP with a different serial number again you will lose the base 10 mailboxes. This problem was corrected in 2.1.

I test my 3.0 Call Pilot's on a 6.1 system and they come up fine. Try powering down the 1.5 CP and remove the feature codes from the system. Then install the 3.0 Call Pilot. I have run into feature code conflicts - the MICS is not releasing the feature code and when you put the CP in it has problems assigning the codes.

Thanks everyone your all help.
It's good to know you can't swap software cartridges with another CP cabinet.
A question for nortelnorstar or anyone else, if in the future I had a CP100 with a 2.1 and greater software, that I could back it up and if the cabinet died and I could restore it onto a new cartridge in a new cabinet and wouldn't loose my mailboxes?
gecko202002 I'll try removing feature codes as well to see if that would help.
Thanks again.

I've done a backup and restore of a 2.1 to another machine without losing any licences. If by chance you lose licenences they can be recovered if you have the original auth. codes and access to the nortel site. but the initial 10 mailboxes can not be restored.

CP 3.0 and CICS/MICS 6.1 are not supposed to be compatible. gecko202002 it sounds like you've discovered another nortel "undocumented feature". Same holds true with CICS/MICS below 4.1. I've successfully installed a CP 1.5 on a MICS R1T1 which isn't supposed to work either.

just to confirm what nortelnorstar and gecko202002 said ...

Compatibility doc says CP 3.x requires ICS 7.x,
but i have it working with 6.x

You have it reversed - You must be at Call Pilot 3.0 to work with Norstar 7.0 - but 3.0 is backwards compatible to 4.1. Nortel usually makes their voice mail revisions backwards compatible their "evergreen" philosophy. The compatibility matrix shows the minimum level of voice mail software (or any other device software for that matter) required to be compatible with the telephone system software. Just as you can get a Call Pilot to work with R1T1 if you initialize it on 4.1 or higher system - the only problem is if the Call Pilot blows out then it will not come back up on the older revision system.
