Thanks

You sure can , just log into with a CCO login, go to software center and download the latest and greatest IOS for your 1900, and make sure you have a "j" in the filename , which means enterprise.

I could not install the image of cat1900A.8.01.00.bin on my cat1900 switch. I could only install the cat1900.537.bin on it. Should I nedd to add the "j" in the filename.

eg. "jcat1900A.8.01.00.bin" ?

Thank You

Victor, this is your best bet, the catch is you have to get your hands on a Cisco Catalyst 1900/2820 Enterprise Edition Software CD, then all you have to do is follow these steps:

Follow these steps to download the software from a TFTP server:

1. Insert the Cisco Catalyst 1900/2820 Enterprise Edition Software CD into the CD-ROM drive of the management station.

2. Configure the TFTP root directory on the TFTP server in which to copy the upgrade file.

3. Copy the upgrade file from the CD to the correct directory on the server.

4. Power up the switch and allow it to execute the power-on self-test (POST). For information about POST, refer to the installation and configuration guide that shipped with your switch.

5. Display the switch management console by either:

Connecting to the switch as described in the "Connecting the Switch to a Management Station or Modem" section on page 13 and using a terminal emulation program

If the switch has an IP address, you can display it from the IP Configuration Menu. You can also use this menu if you need to assign an IP address, subnet mask, and default gateway for the switch.

Using Telnet if an IP address is assigned to the switch

6. Ensure there is IP connectivity between the switch and the TFTP server. For example, ping the switch from the server.

7. From the Management Console Main Menu, display the Firmware Configuration Menu, select the option, and enter the IP address of the server on which the upgrade file is located.

8. Select the [F] option from the menu, and enter the location of the upgrade file on the server, relative to the TFTP root directory.

9. Select the [T] option from the menu to initiate the TFTP download.

The switch contacts the server to download the upgrade file to the switch.

10. Check the Upgrade status field in the System Information area on the menu to verify the progress of the download.

When the file is validated by the existing firmware and successfully downloads to the switch Flash memory, the new firmware executes immediately. If the upgrade file is invalid, the temporary image is discarded, the existing firmware continues to execute, and the firmware upgrade ends.

After the download, the switch does not respond to commands for approximately 1 minute. When the download is complete, the switch resets and begins using the new software.

I bet you did what I did and bought an older 24 port Cisco 1900 switch thinking it had an IOS. Truth is, 5.37 is the latest you can get and with NO IOS. Just a menu system. You can create VLANs though and monitor usage.

I wanted the 9.x firmware too but got an old model that doesnt support it. My fault for not researching it better...I still like the switch though...I didnt pay much for though... You can tell if yours is one of the older ones by the console port. Is it DB9 or a standard Cisco rj45 port? DB9 is older model.. Mine actually came with 5.35 and I went ahead and put 5.37 on but didnt change much...

Hope this helps...Robbie
