Recently I replaced my corrupted Rundll32 file because it would not allow me to go into my control panel. The first time that I replaced it, I had no problems. I got the simple message telling me that the file already exists and asked me if I wanted to replace it. I answered "yes" and replaced the file with a good Rundll32 file. This corrected the problem of accessing my control panel.

A few days later, my Rundll32 file again became corrupted. Again I cannot access the contents of my control panel. I tried to replace the corrupted Rundll32 file with a good file. However this time I got the message....."This file exists with read only attributes. Please use a different file name".

I believe that the file became corrupted from spyware. I scanned for viruses. I have no known viuses and my Norton anti-virus is up to date.

Does anyone have any solutions to replacing this Rundll32 file?

You can right click the corrupt file, select properties and make sure Read Only isn't selected.
Run Spybot, Adaware and fix the items that they find, this will clear up most of your spyware problems.

Other solution to fix rundll32 would be to boot from a boot disk and copy it there, when it's not been loaded by Windows. If Windows is actively using the file, it will not let you overwrite it, (it will give you the read only error).

Thank you Xemus for the tips and the links.
I was able to replace my corrupted again and all is well again with my control panel.
