Hi all,

I have been experiencing problems with the fonts on my machine after I installed quite a few new ones.

I recently installed about 500 new fonts and the first problem was that my graphics programs only thought I have 10 fonts in total installed on the machine.

After deleting a few (No system, only some I had installed) it worked but every now and again the problem with the graphics program occurs again.

Bullet lists on pages are totally screwed as well. The following is an example of what I see for the bullet lists on the TT homepage.

Any suggestions appreciated...

Thanks in advance, Wullie

Probably one of the fonts is corrupt, any it could even be a system font that is corrupt by showing your the wrong bullet. What font is that in your picture, looks like Arial, if you find out which one is that font, you could try re-installing that font. BUT. When re-installing fonts that were installed with system (like arial) I would replace them in DOS mode. I completely screwed up my computer by removing MS Sans Serif (western) and replacing it with the same version, and I had to re-install windows. FUN. Anyway try replacing Arial with another one.

Save font to desktop, the re-start with start-up disk choose minimal boot, navigate to C:\WINDOWS\DESKTOP and type
xcopy arial.ttf C:\WINDOWS\FONTS.

Find my arial font at
Hope this helps!

Sorry the webpage is being stupid goto:

it is the listed directory b/c there is no index.html page. Just click on arial.ttf and it will ask you to save it.

Good Luck!

You said that was a tek-tips site right? Can you give an address to that so I can see if it works for me.

Tek-tips uses the following font's in this order:
Tahoma,Geneva,Arial,sans-serif

So here are all of those fonts from my Windows ME system. Try re-installing each one of them in DOS mode.

Also did Tek-tips do the site right, if so then the bullet is ALT+0149, you could try just typing ALT+0149 into an html and open it locally to pinpoint the problem, to see if it is your system or if Tek-Tips has "ANOTHER PROBLEM".

Try using each one of those fonts listed above with just a bullet in a local html.

Hope this helps!

Oh oops, I only have Arial, and Tahoma. Try it out for both fonts. Only tahoma is at that site.

and actually is you can see this bullet then you will know that if the font is corrupt or not.

and try looking at
it too has bullets. Perhpas MSIE is messed up, have your tried looking at that page that you "print-screened" in Netscape? Does it work in Netscape, if so then IE Is corrupt and you should re-install it.

Hope this helps!

Hi mate,

The screenshot that I posted is from the home page of THIS site.. Just after you log in this is the screen that you see.. It is not tek-tips that is to blame here, this is the same on every bullet list I have seen until now.

The bullets above work fine, so tahoma is not the problem here..

And strangly enough, netscape works.. I never thought of trying that...

The only problem is, that wouldn't explian the problems with the graphics program... [cry]

I will try a reinstall of IE and see if that works. I will let you know as soon as I have done that.

Thanks mate, Wullie

Try re-installing graphics program too (might help)

Sometimes fonts get comletely screwed up and the only thing to do to fix it is re-install windows. See my thread about strange japanese in windows and you can see how font's get meesed up easily thread748-244427 (oh, you have it marked actually). I hate MS and B-G, and the whole Microsoft Team. Dell Tech support couldn't help me with my problem and Microsoft couldn't help. It's just one of those things.

Maybe you get to be lucky contestant number 646843213198100 that gets to re-install windows. YAY!!! NOT!!! Hoping that re-installing both IE and graphics prog will help you eliminate your problem.

Let me know!

BTW - I just found out how old you are. Honestly with all the knowledge you have given here at Tek-Tips, you sound like a veteran. I thought you were like 40, and somewhat resembled the look of Sean Conery. LOL Sorry, that's strike 2 for me. The other strike was thinking you were an Aussie. Don't judge a book by its cover defineatley is the moto of the day. oops!!!

Hi mate,

My problem is solved!! But not the way I wanted it..[mad]

I tried a repair of IE and was greeted by error after error.. I tried to reboot and everytime I got an Explorer error and the machine froze..[mad]

So, I did get to be that lucky contestant!!

BTW. We all look like Sean Connery over here when we are running about trying to catch haggis for dinner!! LOL

Thanks for the help mate, Wullie
