I am running XP Pro. on a 3200 Athlon machine. The power lead was knocked out of my pc and when I restarted i got the error that config sys was corrupted. Run setup and press R at the first screen.

Unfortunately as soon as I press R and get the choice of drive it freezes.

If I try to re-install windows then it runs as far as checking for previous versions of windows then it freezes.

I have put the hdd on another PC as a slave and it is seen as soon as windows starts and all files are accessible.

Any ideas as to why it wopnt boot its own pc?

Thanks,

Ray

Try taking out the CMOS battery in the troubled machine, and leaving it out for 5 minutes. This should reset the hardware to the original state before the lead was removed. config.sys is not required by XP pro its a configuration file for windows2000. You just have to remind it of that fact :)

If you dont ask you wont get :)
