Hello,

Maybe it is a wierd question, but is it possible to protect your files with kind of a copy protection ?

I thought the answer is NO, but maybe there is someone in this forum who has an idea.

If you mean that a copy of the file would not work somehow?

1. Most application software for windows supports saving the file with a password/encryption

2. You can secure your folders and any files by using the security principles native to Windows, and in particular with the additional features provided by NTFS filestore.

3. Some additional help may be found in this thread:

I ment, if it is possible to protect a folder on the network that cannot be copied to a local or floppy disk.

Not with NTFS protection, but a real copy protection.

I know it is a wierd question but I want to confirm it isn't possible to do that.

Thx!

I think the most direct answer is no.

You can use a group policy object to restrict access to the floppy and some removable drives on a user machine. But you certainly can not do this on a folder by folder basis.

I know Netware for one has a file (not folder) attribute that can do this, but you also cannot change the files contents once it is applied.

bcastner has it right. While you can encrypt\password protect they will still be able to copy it IF they can see it. (Rights to the file)
