Does anyone know if it's possible (and safe) to copy customer cards from one Great Plains company to another? We are on 6.0 on SQL 2000.

I would like to use DTS to copy customer cards from one company database to another company database.

Can anyone tell me which tables I would need to copy over?

thanks

Thanks!

Yes you can safely copy records from one company to another using DTS. I've done this for setup records and had no problems.

The tables to copy for Customers are:
RM00101 - Customer Master
RM00102 - Customer Master Address
RM00201 - Class Master (if necessary)

When you select each table you may want to click on the icon in the Transform column and select delete rows in destination table to ensure that you don't have any duplicates when it's finished.

Hope this helps.

There are some gotcha's that you should be aware of. For example, you will be missing the Customer Master Summary table. You should run a CheckLinks to ensure that the missing related tables get created for you.

However, the main issue that I am worried about is the customer notes. The Note ID's from the customer records in one company are associated with the Record Note Master table in the same company. When you copy the Customer records into another company you risk cross linking your customer record notes.

Thanks for the tips. I think I will get someone to enter them - there are only about 20 or so. Better safe than sorry!
