Copy a set - error SCH8783....why? 2

What am I doing wrong here? I'm just trying to copy a port instead of having to make a new one and type all the stuff in....So our new employee joe blow can have a telephone...

So, as soon as I type the "copy from tn" port, I get the SCH8783 error. Port 6 0 0 10 is active and is a 2008 set. I tried other ports as a source too, but same error. Why?

Maybe I'm going crazy. Finally, I've been waiting for it.

you will want to obtain a copy of the Software input ouput guide system messages or at the > prompt on your terminal type err sch8783. This will tell you that this tn is being monitored or monitoring a phone. another user just had this problem. They had to nul a key on the attendant console. if you can't figure out what needs to be changed you can post the tn here.

that tn shows up on a bfs key somewhere, or has bfs keys on it.. either way copy another set or build it

It would be easier to find a set that is not monitored to copy. But if you can't do that print the tn of the set you want to copy to find the tn of the monitoring set. Remove the tn of the set you want to copy, then you can copy it. Don't forget to put the tn back on the monitoring set.
If you have multi user turned on in your switch, when you want to know what an error code is for you can hit shift and! and the code will come up and tell you what you did wrong.

I would suggest building a new set. Use of the copy command can corrupt data in the switch.

I just copied another set. I still don't understand why I couldn't copy the one I wanted (actually I had to try a few before I got to one that I could).

John Poole - I don't know what a bfs key is.

yeah, yeah, I can make a new set of course. But that requires more time then I need to spend with phone system junk.

nortelian - I tried typing err sch8783 but I get an error as soon as I press the space bar after typing err

Anyway, I'm good now. Unfortunately, my sanity was lost.

the set you tried to copy is a monitored set and cant be copied. Just get a set that isnt monitored-

and i dont believe "cpy" can corrupt a database- "chg" can absolutely corrupt a dbase in certain scenarios, and "mov" can as well, but with "cpy" i never heard of corruption

Hi, the BFS key is for the receptionists phone so when a caller calls for that number the receptionist sees a light and knows it is for that number. If you want to copy that set you can just take the BFS key off and put it back on when you are done.AJK

Are you both talking the same thing? I mean, MG2005 says the set is monitored (don't know what that means) & Tellyteck1 says that the set I tried copying has its DN# as a button on the receptionist desk (that I understand).

Are you both saying the same thing in a different way or is that 2 different statements?

I ended up copying the TN from my set which worked.

both are correct on the right rls, the monitored or monitoring station could not be the target of a cpy from command. if you needed to make a change on a monitored set, the monitering key had to be nulled.. i use the mov command every day. and the copy command a dozen times a day.. i do disu any set i am working on, but not the copied from set. last corruption i saw was an out command 10 years ago, the tn could not be used, outed, printed.. etc.. the dn marped on the set was also in digital disney land.
