I'm revamping the webpage of a small volunteer-run newspaper. The paper is laid-out in Quark Xpress, and I want to know how I can quickly transfer the text of the paper into something I can put on the web page.

I've seen a few things that claim to convert the whole page, layout included, but I don't want to do that. Currently when we update the paper, we cut-and-paste the text from the Quark doc, and paste it into the html. With this approach, though, we have to manually re-apply the styles, which strikes me as duplicating the efforts of the layout editor.

For example, if the layout editor has a span of text, the style of which is marked as "byline" I want the corresponding text in the .html to be surrounded by
Code:
<span class=&quot;byline&quot;>...</span>

How can I do this so that conversion will be as quick as possible?

Try pressing control + shift keys of the keboard and then export the docs as HTML. it will only work for QXP 5.0

Okay, so before I get them to upgrade to 5.0, in what kind of shape does the .html come out? Can I find an example of what it looks like? I want to be sure it produces something I can use.

Why not use the XML function that is avaliable free for Quark 4 and comes with Quark 5. Tag everything then export it out.

Using the <control> <shift> function will give you picture files, with the text in the same format (picture).

If you can't fix it in 20 minutes call someone who can.

Well, I tried out the .html export function, and I didn't much care for what it created, so I'm in the midst of writing a CGI script that will convert Xtags into HTML. That way, I can base it all on the Style Sheets.
