I do not own Quarkxpress. I have a quark file (.qxd) in Mac format that I translated to PC format with MacOpener. Now I want to open it in Word. How can I do this without buying Quark for Windows? I see that Adobe PageMaker will import quark files - is this the only option?

I'm new to this forum, and not at all sure that this information will help you. I am an experienced Quark for Mac user, however. There is an extension for Quark called TexTracter. With it, the creator of the original file, could change the contents to a Word file. The extension can be purchased over the internet and downloaded. What occurs to me, is that for the purchase price of the extension, you may be able to get someone else to convert the file for you rather than you having to buy Quark. You might also check with service bureaus in your area--firms that supply film output for printers from electronic files--to see if they may offer the service you require.

Best of luck to you.

Thanks! I think you are right, it has to be translated from Quark. I was able to read the Quark files into PageMaker (I downloaded a trial copy), save them as Acrobat files, then use Acrobat to save them as text - better than nothing. All formatting is gone, but I have the text.
