Is there a tool or process that will facilitate converting Cognos Impromptu 7.0 reports to Crystal Reports 7.0 or higher? Or, is this a "write a new Crystal Report from scratch" exercise? The reports that will be converted will be accessed through Crystal Enterprise. Thanks in advance for your help.

Yeah, I fear that you're rewriting reports.

And you shouldn't be going to ver 7, especially since CE didn't arrive until CR 8.

You might be able to leverage any existing SQL though.

I'm not aware of any utility for converting Cognos Impromptu reports into Crystal reports.

If you use the new repository in Crystal 9, you may benefit from moving some or most of the formulas in your Impromptu catalog into the Crystal repository for reuse across all your reports.

Here's a key step you should consider taking:

1. For each report you need to convert, ask the Impromptu Catalog Administrator (if it's not you) to create a catalog folder from the report. This would import even the "unique" calculations in the Impromptu report into the Catalog.

2. Create an Impromptu Catalog Content Report by:
a. Using the menu option of Catalog, Content Overview…
b. Save to an ICR (Impromptu Catalog Review) file.
c. Open with NotePad or Word and use as useful documentation for the Crystal report...

Cheers,
