I am trying to convert an Excel worksheet to tab delimited format. The only problem is that some records in the fields are longer than the default field length and go into the next column and this messes up the entire record line. Is there a way to make the default fields length longer before the tab comes into play?

EX OF TAB DELIMITED:
BIRD SUSAN P 999-99-9999 9/99/9999
SOMAR KATHY T 999-99-9999 9/99/9999
WESTBROOK JOHNSON S 999-99-9999 9/99/9999

EX OF EXCEL:
BIRD SUSAN P 999-99-9999 9/99/9999
SOMAR KATHY T 999-99-9999 9/99/9999
WESTBROOK JOHNSON S 999-99-9999 9/99/9999

I don't think I can replicate the issue? I can't see the difference between your examples. I can export successfuly 156 characters in a single cell and the tabs appear in the right place.
Can you post an example of the field contents giving the problem? Are you using file, save as, tab-delimited to crate your file? What version of Excel?

Well, when I Save As Text (tab-delimited) I produce this file (I opened in Word and replaced tabs with @). Is this where you want the tabs? Is it what you get? Please be specific about where you want the tabs)
Code:
BIRD@SUSAN@P@999-99-9999@9/99/9999
SOMAR@KATHY@T@999-99-9999@9/99/9999
WESTBROOK@JOHNSON@S@999-99-9999@9/99/9999
I have not sussed how to open the txt file in word so I can see what is going on in that (it opens in my browser).

I want the each column in the Excel file to start at the exact same spot instead of when one of the field, IE: the first field in this example on the third row, is so long that it goes into where the 2nd column starts in the tab delimited filed, which I created by using the save as tab delimited (.txt) in Excel.
