I've unsuccessfully searched the faq's for this. Basically, we had a "problem" with an Access database, such that the original version appeared to split apart - great chunks went missing - and it all seemed to happen after someone (not me!) decided to use Briefcase. Whether this was at fault or not, we were left with an unusable database and no recent backups - except, that is, for a .bak file (which magically materialised). Rightly or wrongly we have been using this version , since it seemed unharmed, but when it comes to importing data or trying to latch a Word mail merge doc onto it, unrecognisable symbols appear in the dialog boxes. I assume this is to do with the fact that an .mdb file is required. Can one convert the .bak to .mdb in some way? Just renaming doesn't fool Microsoft!
