I am at an office that already has a mitel 3300 controller and mitel 5330 phones. I am trying to set the phones to teleworker mode to connect through mbg to the main office. I have instructions that work for phones that are right out the box, but it does not work for these phones. If I set them back to factory defaults, will that help? How do I do that?

Thanks
Jim

I have done some testing and I don't think the problem is with the phone configuration. I have a phone already set up for teleworker mode, and it fails to connect when connected in this office. So I think it is a network or firewall issue. The first error it gives is TFTP svr unavailable. Any ideas?

THanks

Out going from the network mostly does not involve the firewall for teleworker so it may be an issue at your mbg site

OK, but my Allstream rep gave me his MBG`s ip address and when I used it I had the same error messages. So I think it is the network here. I will be at another location tomorrow, so I will see if a teleworker phone will connect there...

whats the phone connected to ? is it a switch with a voice vlan configured

you may find that the phone is getting information from that thats affecting the TW settings

What are the instructions that worked

factory default is definitely worthwhile

- hold down blue grey while booting and go through menu to tools options and the factory defaults is in there

then hold 7 and enter TW address

If I never did anything I'd never done before , I'd never do anything.....

Yes, the phone is connected to a switch with a voice vlan.

The teleworker instructions that worked in other locations:
As phone boots up, press and hold the 7 key
Config Teleworker? * for yes
press # for new settings
press * for ipv4
enter ip address of teleworker gateway
press volume down button
press *
phone reboots
phone may download a firmware update
phone prompts for a teleworker password, enter it
enter *** extension and Hold

in this location, all these steps work okay, but after the reboot, it displays TFTP server unavailable, CL BIN error, and then displays Contacting Server forever....

I have set it back to factory defaults but that did not help

Thanks
Jim

Can you run TNA (Teleworker Network Analyser) to make sure the local network has no ports blocked to the MBG Server?

Where can I get TNA - and instructions?

I was wondering if the problem could be solved by disconnecting the 3300 at the site where the phone is. Would this force the phone to find the MBG and the main office 3300?

Jim

I found a solution to this and I would like to share it with you:

The voice vlan in that office does not have access to the internet.
So you configure the phone to not use the vlan, but use the data network, which has access to intenet:

1) Reboot the IP phone and hold volume up and down until you see “Network Parameters”
2) Once you see “Network Parameters” , release volume up and down key and select “yes”
3) Select NO until you see “Static QOS”
4) Select yes
5) Select no until you see “Modify QOS Params”
6) Select YES to modify
7) Scroll down (press volume down ) until you see VLAN ID
8) Enter 0 (ZERO) to disable
9) Select NO until you see exit menu
10) Select yes
11) You will see “Network Parameters”
12) Select no until you see “Exit”
13) Select yes
14) IP phone will reboot and start performing firmware upgrade which takes approx2-3 min.

Hope this helps anyone who has similar problems.
