Path is C:\Documents and Settings\Peter Snow\My Documents\Pegasus

It is the space after peter that I don't know how to render in 8.3 format?

Any help would be VERY appreciated.

Thanks

peter

Quick fix, share the pegasus folder and browse to it thru network neighbourhood

I'm going to try that - will let you know - thanks

Use dir /X to see short name (usually first 6 characters - removing any spaces, plus ~ plus a number - starts with 1. So Peter Snow normally would be PETERS~1).

We're sorted - thanks.

Have a star for responding so promptly and appropriately!

Thanks too Wolluf.

It's useful to know how to do it anyhow. I know now for next time to remove the spaces!

Just surround the path with quotes like
c:\dir "C:\Documents and Settings\Peter Snow\My Documents\Pegasus"

Like wbg34 noted, if your need is to use the pathname in a DOS batch file, just enclose it in double-quotes and you'll be all set.... I often have to use that method...

Thanks everyone. It's god to be armed with a variety of methods as 'plan a' so often fails!

I used the network path first to get me out of trouble but later did the conversion properly to gain a performance improvement.

I found all input informative and worthwhile - thanks.
