Hi,

I`m trying to convert my boot partition from FAT32 to NTFS. I`m using Windows 2000 Pro SP3. I have 2 partitions on a single physical drive, with the c drive being FAT32 and the d drive NTFS.
As instructed on the MS website, I type convert c: /fs:ntfs in the command prompt, but nothing happens after that....
Any ideas why it won`t work?

Thanks for any info,
Danny

That command will be saved for later conversion. It will start convert after you restart windows.

Have you tried 'convert c: /fs:ntfs /v' to go into verbose mode? If you attempt to convert your boot partition you should receive the message:

Convert cannot gain exclusive access to the C: drive so it cannot convert it now. Would you like to schedule it to be converted the next time the system restarts [Y/N]?

Perhaps without the /v option, you are not receiving that message, or just not seeing some other error message such as what you would get if you were using Partition Magic.

Hi all,

Thanks for the comments.
I got around the problem by logging in as administrator and I had no problems with the command. When logged in as admin, it goes through the prompts as pointed out above (scheduling conversion at the next boot up etc.) and according to the MS website. It seemed that under a normal login, the OS won`t allow HD manipulation by anyone other than an admin....

Thanks again,
Danny.
