How do I convert a cell with date format to string? In A1, I have the date 25/12/2004. Using the formula +A1&" Xmas", I would like to have the result "25/12/2004 Xmas" instead of "38346 Xmas".

Hi chouna,

You can use the TEXT function ..

[blue][tt] =TEXT(A1,"dd/mm/yyyy")&" Xmas"[/tt][/blue]

Enjoy,
Tony

Thanks Tony, that worked like a charm. I am still intrigued with the TEXT function arguments. Where in the Help file can I get them? I know you can extract the Day e.g. Saturday, Sunday using the function but don't really know where the complete documentation lies. Could you point me to the location?

Hi chouna,

If only Help were better indexed - there's so much in there.

If you enter "Custom Number Formats" in the Answer Wizard box and then select "Create a custom number format" you should find links to the different types of format codes.

Enjoy,
Tony
