Anyone know if CIOS 12.0 can be flashed on to a 2948G, with CIOS 6.4, to gain L3 switching functionality???

I highly doubt it , layer 3 routing is not strictly a software issue it usually requires hardware changes also .

sorry, only 3550 smi could be converted to L3 by upgrading IOS to Enterprise version. all 29 are L2 devices.

There are 2 versions of the 2948G - one runs IOS and is Layer-3, the other runs CatOS and is Layer-2. Physically they look exactly the same but internally I assume they are different (?). The part numbers are:

WS-2948G - 48 10/100Tx +2 1000X (GBIC slots)
WS-2948G-L3 - 48 10/100Tx +2 1000X (GBIC slots) Layer-3

There are another 2 products that run the same software images as the 2948 - the Catalyst 4908G and 4908G-L3. Same setup as the 2948; physically the same to look at but one runs CatOS and is Layer-2 and the other runs IOS and is Layer-3.

Has anyone tried installing the IOS image on one? I assume you can't, or at least it won't work?

Andy
