Contivity interoperability

I have to make some 3d-party VPN client working with Nortel Contivity box. I have Username/Password pair (no Group password in use), all IPSec parameters and IP address of the box, of course.

I was able to understand that the box expects SHA1 hash of Username as an ID on the 1st phase of IKE. What I cannot guess is - how to create pre-shared key from Username/Password pair.

Any help would be very appreciated,
