I have a database of race participants. I want to enter their race times by entering race number and finish time. I am doing this with a continuous form. The race number field in unbound, and is used to verify that it is a valid race number and to update the record. It updates the record correctly. The problem is that when a number is typed in, it displays that same number all the way down the screen. I am using Access 2000. What am I doing wrong here?

Thank you.

Since the field is unbound, it is going to show the same data for every record. What do you mean that it "is used to verify that it is a valid race number and to update the record"?

After the race number is entered, I do a 'findfirst' on the table to make sure it is a valid race number. Then I bookmark it, and after they enter the finish time, I update the racer's record with the time.

I'll tell you what I am trying to do. Maybe I'm going about it all wrong. I want to be able to enter the racer number and time very quickly. I will have a stack of race numbers with the times written on them. So I thought an Excel-like entry would be the fastest. If I make the race number field bound, then when I start up the form, it shows me all of the race numbers, which I don't want. I want to be able to enter race number, time, race number, time, etc. Any suggestions are appreciated.
