I have just built a computer. I took my hard drive, DVD-ROM and CD burner, floppy and put it on a new motherboard and case. The motherboard is a Soyo KT333 Dragon Ultra Platinum with an AMD Athlon XP 2000 and 1 stick of 512mb DDR Ram. The case holds 5 fans (not including cpu fan). I have been able to install everything and it works fine until I decide to reboot. Windows starts to load and then it all of a sudden reboots on its own. What could it be?

Can you start in safe mode? By the way what OS are you running as this sounds to me like a software problem.

I've had the same problem twice. First time was a crappy cheap motherboard. replaced it all was fine. I would NOT classify a Soyo board as cheap or crappy. The second time was a voltage irregularity with the outlet I was using. This may be more related to your problem. Either the outlet or the board for one reason or another. A Multimeter will help you with this.

The operating system is W2K Pro.
I did a fresh install and I formatted the drive with NTFS.
I haven't tried in safe mode yet. I will try that.
Could this have anything to do with the power supply? However if it was the power supply wouldn't it shut down at anytime?
I am not quite sure what to do with the multimeter!

The multimeter can be used to test the voltage coming from a place. If you have one, make sure it's set to the proper voltage to test. 110v is standard outlet and +/-12v and +5v(if memory serves) for power supply. depending on the type of multimeter you have you using just stick the probe into the socket and check the reading. Make sure you getting right around the voltage amount your testing. to test the power supply you would stick the probe into the voltage wire that goes from your power supply to the motherboard. That wire should be red. It'll be in a bundle of other wires usually into a connector labeled P9/P8 or some I think are labled P1/P2. Hope this helps.

It boots fine in safe mode. I even disabled all items in the system tray and I still have problems. The cpu temp is 44C and memory is pc2100 512mb ddr.
