I have one computer in a small LAN which requires frequent 'repair of network connection' action. There are multiple computers on this network and only one requires this.
Specifics are:
With the computer (running XP Pro SP2) connected to the network, if Windows IE is started, the browser may or may not be able to find DNS servers. If a 'repair' is done (right click on network icon select repair), without restarting the browser, I can reload the page and all works fine. If I have performed the scenario just described and start my email program (Mozilla Thunderbird), it may or may not be able to connect to the mail servers. Again if a relaod is done, all is fine even though the browser is functioning fine when the email program cannot find the servers.
This happens with various programs which access the Internet and only on this one machine. It seems like even though one program has a connection and DNS routing info, others may not without the 'repair'. When the browser is unable to find the DNS server, I can still open a command prompt and ping various sites ( fine. So the command prompt is able to find the DNS server???!!!!
Any suggestions?
