I keep hearing a constant beep (about every 8 seconds)on a new Call Master 5 I installed. Avaya couldn't help me out, they think it might be a bad phone. I only have one phone to play with and the others are being shipped in.
It sounds as if you've received the phone with the recording tone turned on, which was usually statndard for a new Callmaster. For previous revisions of the phone, I remember having to have the connected, but with no headset plugged in and I would have to punch in a button sequence to turn off the tone (it was something like 'shift' + 'mute' + ##). I'm not sure if there is a keystroke solution for the V, but I'd be suprised if there wasn't a way to turn it off. I would start by calling Avaya back and asking to speak to a higher Tier and ask them if there are any key-codes to program the phone directly.
you can try "select"+"mute"+"00" to see the setting
"select"+"mute"+"73" to set enable or disable
We have Callmaster 5s in our centre and the beep is turned off by setting the 2 little dip switches on the underside of the phone to "0" John
We try to help some many. They come to us for help and we give and we give until are fingers bleed, and are to fat to hit just one key ayt a timre. Here is your star, THANK YOU. Did you know Friday is SYS ADMIN DAY July, 26 Wisdom is Knowledge

Its true... I heard it from the brother of my sisters ex-husband who works for the local ice cream shop in a small back woods town east of my old hang out in Ohio.
