We are running Solaris 2.6. The only user that can login via console through CDE is root. All users can login via the console using the command line, but only root can login via the GUI. Any ideas?

I do not think /etc/default/login is the problem. As I understand it the line
CONSOLE=/dev/console
restricts root logins to the console only, no remote root logins are allowed.
That is not my problem. My problem is that the only user that can login in to the console is root. No other users are able to login in to the console.
However, if I shut down the gui login and go for a command line login then all users can login via the console.

Yes, each user has a home directory. The only thing I can think of is there is something funny in the X Window System config, but I don't know where to start looking, e.g Do users need something in addition to a .profile to login via X Windows System?

Thanks

Richard

Why don't you copy the profile(login.profile) file from /etc/skel and make it a hidden file (.profile) and make them the owner of the file.

Problem solved. Wrong permissions under /devices
