console login after reboot

I rebooted my machine after putting a new sun keyboard on. Now it will only do a console log in. I get the following at startup:

Hostname: unknown
metainit: unknown: there are no existing databases

/sbin/rc2: test: unknown operator S
/sbin/rc3: test: argument expected

unknown console login:

(I know, the name of the system is unknown, I didnt set that up)

look at 'man sys-unconfig', the manpage tells you all the Files you have to check; or run sys-unconfig and reboot for a quick fix...
There might be a problem with your SVM/SDS installation, but fix the "unknown" problem first...

Looks to me like a couple of possibles:

1. You can ignore the metainit if you're not using Solaris Disksuite. If you are, you have problems.

2. Have you been playing with /sbin/rc2 and /sbin/rc3? If so, undo your changes and try again. If necessary, post your changes here so that they can be examined and perhaps corrected.

I havent touched either of those files

I'd suggest the disksuite 'problem' is a red herring. Can you possibly post the /sbin/rc2 and rc3 scripts so that we can compare with a copy on our systems? What Solaris version are you using?

Oh, and unknown console login: is normal, assuming you're at the console and your machine name is unknown! Can you telnet to the box?

assuming, that your machine name was not 'unknown' I suggest to fix this first (run 'sys-unconfig' and boot again)

pls post output of the following commands to check SVM/SDS Problem:
df -l
metadb -i
metastat
metastat -p
format (I just want to see the disk list)

To clarify the 'unknown' thing - was your machine called unknown before you rebooted after adding the keyboard. Or have I (most likely) misunderstood?

No you are correct the system name is unknown. I have not been able to access the machine (or even ping it for that matter) to get the files. How do I check the IP from the console login to make sure I still have it correct?

Run ifconfig -a or ifconfig interface_name (Ex. hme0, qfe0, etc).

I think I may have lost my ip settings when I ran sys-unconfig as suggested by Franz, what should I do now to get it set up?

Sounds like you need to reset your networking details. See Thread60-615259 for help with that. Good luck.

completely strange; if you run sys-unconfig the system will clean itself (no hostname, no IP, no domain, no routing, etc.), will shutdown and ask for all info when rebooting again...

I always told my CU if they ran into such problems: you have to decide, do you need this system back to work asap, then run a restore/new install; if you have time I can help you debug the problem...

As Ken says, configure networkinterface by hand or run sys-unconfig again (check manpage what the command moves), if it does not stop run halt/init 0/reboot and reconfigure the host.
Next please post the outputs
df -l
metadb -i
metastat
metastat -p
format (I just want to see the disk list)
who -r
can you post messages? search for "Copyright" if the file is very long, I want to "see" the first boot AFTER you plugged in the new keyboard (you did shut down the machine to plugin?!?)....
