My laptop does not have a serial connection to connect to a few switches that I need to configure. I currently have a RJ45 to DB9 rollover cable. Is there any alternative solution to connect and what is the most reasonable?

Does you laptop have a USB connection? Get yourself a USB to serial converter. I bought mine for $20.

You could always make a crossover cable, Thats how i do all my tftp dnld stuff.

I am assuming you want to connect to the switch for management correct? If the swith has an IP then you can telnet to the router otherwise you will need to console in using the rollover cable you have.
