I am considering moving to XP PRO ... however there are a few concerns....

1. I have a 500mhz - 128mb is that enough....
2. I have an sound card built into my motherboard, will
XP pick it up or do I need a driver?
3. do I need to reinstall all my drivers for XP or will it
pick it up??

Thanks in advance....

also ....

4. what is the difference between PRO and HOME??

Lets see if I can help.

1) That should work. I would reccomend getting another 128 meg of RAM. With all the "features" XP has it is better than trying to turn everything off.

2)XP should pick up the sound card drivers. However there is no guarentee. Its worth a shot. When ever I install it on older systems it seems to pick up everything so far.

3) See #2

4) XP pro has Domain Network support, XP Home ONLY has peer to peer networking support. XP PRO also has a few more tools for diag reasons as well.

goha, i have a similar system to yours, 500Mhz, 378mg ram gforce 2 64mg etc.. and i have no problems with xp. Driver wise xps got a real lot so dont worry about the onboard sound, and if you want do what linney said and get a compatability program. i used to be win98 but that stuffed up maybe once out of every two boot ups, freezing or someother crap.. i havent had any problems with xp so i say go for it!

where can I find a compatablity program for xp????
can I download it off the web(if so from where) or what???

thanks a bunch.....

If you have a cable or other fast internet connection download it via the above link. If all you have is dial up, it being a 50mb download could be a problem.

Can you borrow an XP CD and run it from that? Also at the start of the year many of those CD's you see free with computer magazines included it. You might get a copy that way.
