We are switching to a dedicated Server for our SIP Provider. Currently we are on a server of theirs that is shared among several of their customers and are moving to the dedicated to help with some issues.

With the Current connection we are NOT using STUN, we have all Inspection on the Cisco ASA turned off and are connected via LAN1 through the Firewall. The Remote SIP switch needs to deal with converting out Internal IP to a Public IP when it issues the re-invites and a few other things.

When Connecting to a SIP Provider over a regular internet connection (non-dedicated to the ISP) What is the Best practice for connecting to them?

Seems like the easiest is to Assign the LAN2 a Public IP and let the SIP Provider Communicate Directly to that and have an Access List on the Edge Router to Prevent Traffic from other sources/ports.

Any information would be appreciated.

Thank you!

who is the provider?

we use edgemarc also normally i would set you up with a port in the edgemarc to plug the ipo directly into. the edgemarc can setup a direct connection to the sip server if provisioned correctly

We are looking at 20 concurrent call paths to the SIP provider. We would be using existing Internet connection and install the edgemarc in parallel with the firewall. Looking at the Edgewater website it looks like the edgeMarc 4550 30 user might be the unit that would work for our situation.

Also have a second IPO at a remote office that has a 100mb Ethernet private line connection between them. At some point we will be routing all of its users over the 100mb line out the edgemarc to the SIP provider (won't go over the 30 concurrent call limit)

What unit do you normally use?

Thanks!

we also use the edgemarc 4550, and the 30 licensed one i would use as well in that situation. You can always up the licenses at anytime

phoneguy610, Did you have the EdgeMarc as a Pass-through device, or did you have it be the middle man for the SIP Connections? Still Trying to get the Avaya Docs from Edgewater Support. Thanks!

Don't get your question, you put it on the edge of your network so wan->edgemarc->ipo\data network

If its not in front of your entire network and the vlans/VoIP alg are not setup properly it isn't serving any purpose

It's at the edge, yes.

What I was meaning is you can setup the edgemarc so the IPO talks to it as the trunk provider and then the edgemarc talks to the sip trunk provider.

The other way is to set it up so the edgemarc just rewrites the packets and passes them along and is not involved in the communication.

I'm leaning towards the later...

Thanks'
