Connection to PC's

Not sure if this is the right place to post this, but here goes.

I have tonight had several different machines (95 and 98SE) report when shutting down the 'you have 1 users(s) connected...' message. This has never happened before, we only use the NT box for mail and internet, all our file sharing and printing is done through a novell server.

None of these machines have any shared resources but something is connected to them, I can't seem to find a way of seeing who or what is actually connected to them.

The machines are all connected to a NT4.0 server.

Any ideas

Look to see if you have a program called netwatch.exe, usually in c:\windows on the workstations (certainly should work with win95)
You can install it from add/remove programs and accessories in the windows components.
Run this and it should tell you who or what is corrected and what they are connecting to.

If you are running centraly managed antivirus software this can hold open shares when you have done an update I have found in the past.

Hi mellors,

We run Sophos centrally from the Novell server for pre-NT machines and we push out the updates to the NT/200/XP machines from the NT server everytime we receive new IDE files sometimes daily, but have never had this problem before.

If you browse and double click on all the visible machines in my network places would you establish a connect even if there were no resources to share?

I will try the Netwatch and let you know.

No, Browsing to a machine should will only be a connection if you actually open a shared resouce. It is also worth noteing that even if no shares have been set up there will still be some administrator shares such as c$ which any admin can access.
