I'm familiar with .net but not so much with sharepoint but i need to be able to create a connection string in the web.config file of a sharepoint site and tap into a database. Then in one .aspx page i'll point to the tables in the DB and grab needed information. Is this possible with sharepoint or do i have to make a custom web part. I'd appreciate any help.

I had the same problem and I wrote my custom web part.
