Hi All,

I have a Windows 2000 server, and WinXP/Win 98 clients, I can log into the domain, but I can't map the user drive. I created the users on the server, created the user directory on the (2nd) drive, set permissions on the user directory, but still can not connect to the drive?

Also, can the user directory be created by the "create user" process?

Thanx,

You didn't mention shares. Did you create shares for the users to map to? The drive has to be shared for the user to map to it.

I actually can map the drive, (\\server\sharename) but when I try to access it, I get an Access denied...

I can browse my way down to the folder through the networkneighborhood:

D:\Users\username

I shared the drive and the directory.

Did you change the permissions on the share? The default is Everyone - Full Control. Then you can set the permissions you need to set at the folder level.

Sorry for the lapse in time, but things are screwy here.

I can only access the mapped drive now if the everyone is enabled, when I try to add the users permissions, and disable everyone, I can map the drive, but get the access denied when I try to use it.

Thanx,

Don't disable everyone, just remove it.

If it doesn't leak oil it must be empty!!

hello,

try altering the NTFS permissions (if you have NTFS) on that folder.

Sharing the folder alone doesn´t alter the NTFS permissions in that folder, you need to do that separately.

Let me know if this helped.

Cheers
Damien

NortonES2, thanx, I just removed everyone, works like a charm.

Thanx again
