Windows XP Pro, using palm desktop. Palm 505. User reported that it has been snching fine for past year. Yesterday the Palm pilot started to act strange, blinking and flashing and freezing up. User reset the palm. After that they cannot synch. They get the following error - "HOT SYNC PROBLEM - The connection between your hand held computer and the desktop could not be established. Please check your setup again"

Reloaded Software on PC, tried to resynch, same error. Connected via USB. USB Port is good.

Any idea's ?

Thank you

This is a pretty common error, and in my experience has rarely been hardware (faulty Palm hardware) related, although that could be the case.

First I would follow the general instuctions given by PalmOne, and just about every other major Palm OEM, found

<a href=&quot; here.</a>

Then I would perform the following procedure:
1. Place the Palm in its cradle.
2. Open the Device Manager (Control Panel -> System -> Hardware -> Device Manager)
3. Tap HotSync on the Palm
4. While the Palm is trying to HotSync you'll probably see &quot;Other Devices&quot; appear in the Device Manager, with Palm Device appearing as the unknown device.
5. While the Palm is still trying to HotSync, remove the unknown device (it only appears while the Palm is trying to HotSync)
6. Once the unknown device is removed, try HotSyncing again. Windows should find new Hardware, and will walk you through the steps of reloading the driver.
7. After loading the driver you'll probably be able to HotSync again.

Out support department see's this problem several times a month, and this always fixes it! Good luck.
