connection experiment: all non uk web users please help

Hi

I'm posting this here as it's my favourite forum and I hope some of you can help me.

I'm the webmistress (can you say that?) for a small but code heavy site that we need to move onto a new server at a new host (various problems). However, though the web connection appears to be fine in the UK, from my connection (in Spain) it runs at approximately half the speed. I need to know if other users, especially US users find the same thing.

If anyone has 2 minutes to spare then please go to the following two urls and time how long the page takes to download on each.

I would also appreciate info on your web connection - whatever you think will be useful.

Frac T-1 connection here (512kb/sec)... Atlanta, GA, USA

Both pages loaded very quickly. I ran a search, and the results were returned in a reasonable amount of time.

The larger the parameters, the longer the search took, but I don't think I waited more than 5 seconds for any one search, and the initial page loaded in probably around 2 seconds or so.

Not bad.

thanks if you read this - I find that kidswindow.co.uk is noticeably slower (the web server that is, the adatabse is slightly faster I think) and was worried that maybe all US users had the same problem. Does anyone have a US dial-up connection just to really set my mind at rest?

With my ISDN connection from Jamestown, TN:

took 12 seconds to load and "seemed" slow.

to 10 seconds to load but "seemed" much faster.

Wow thanks everyone (rtshort I'm assuming you're also US). I guess I have a lot to learn about internet backbones and how they work but I'm getting there.

From Seattle, Washington, my Internet connection is thru T3 connections. No difference noticeable.

From a LAN connection at an ISP shop (T1 connection to internet) both sites loaded in 10 to 15 seconds. Searches likewise. I'd say you've got a winner.
