Hi

I have emails being sent directly to our exchange which is fine and emails getting sent out are being forwarded by dns. I am not using a smarthost to send out.

I am using pop3 connectors to get email from our web host which is hosted on 1and1.co.uk servers.

Our problem is, and other email domains setup on 1and1 mailservers we can not send emails to, comes back with "connection dropped by remote host".

How could I rectify this problem. Do I have to use a smarthost. If so how do i find that or what will it be if our emails are hosted at
Thanks

It is possible that 1and1 are dropping the connection as a form of spam protection, many ISP's no longer accept mail from server's where the reverse DNS doesn't match back to your domain or is obviously generic e.g client213-23.tiscali.com

You need to contact your broadband provider and ask if you can relay mail for your domain through their smtp servers as a smarthost or possibly 1and1 will let you send through theirs if you authenticate.
