Connecting XP to Netware 3.12

I know this is a netware 5 forum but I'm desperate. I am trying to connect an xp machine (client 4.9) to a netware 3.12 server running ipx only. I have installed client in bindery mode, set frame type to 802.2 (server setting) and put in the network number that is appropriate. I have also tried changing the NIC speed ( the nic uses the bnc connector instead of rj45). The machine will login to the server and I can see the mapped drives. If I open the drive it will display then after about 3 secs it will dissappear and the server will be unavailable until I reboot the workstation. I am trying to get some info off of it but ran into this snag... Anyone seen this?

Disregard, messed around and found out that client4.9 doesn't like 3.12 but 4.83 sp1 works great, got the data off and now they are updated to netware 6 and it's working great!
